Last week, our Junior and Intermediate Swimming Teams headed up to the K2 Sports Arena in Crawley to take part in this year’s ESSA Secondary Schools Relay Championships.
The A team for the Junior Team comprising Jessica Brialey, Tahlia Winn, Chloe Hughes and Liliana Winn, came a deserved third place and were knocked out of the silver medal position by 0.2 of a second, all gaining personal best times for their efforts.
Millie Garner, Emily Davison, Abbie Ring and Lizzie Garner, who were in the Junior B team, attained a respectable fifteenth place against some very stiff competition, and again gained two personal bests for each swimmer.
In the Intermediate team, Alice Greenland, Nadia Winn, Flora Alessandroni and Chloe Pollard stormed through in their heat and achieved an impressive second place, and achieved a silver medal against the team who won the National events last year. Nadia knocked over a second off her personal best.
The B team made up of Charlotte Shooter-Harris, Frances Smoker, Jess Giddins and new student Wincey Li, came ninth out of thirteen teams on the day and another three personal best times were added to the collection.
In the 4 x 50 m Junior Medley Relay the A team came seventh and the B team came sixteenth respectively, with Jessica, Millie and Abbie all achieving personal bests.
Yet again the Intermediate Team excelled themselves in their 4 x 50m Medley Relay by gaining yet another silver medal with Nadia, Chloe and Flora all achieving personal bests. The B team swam into tenth position out of thirteen teams and Jess took almost two seconds off her old time.
The girls received tremendous support from their parents, Miss James, Head of PE at Moira House, and also Mrs Bryant, Swimming Pool Manager, who were all ecstatic about the girls and their achievements on the day.
